Use your keys to create an Unchained vault

In the previous sections, you uploaded the necessary public keys from your hardware wallets or connected with other Unchained users or key agents. In this section, we'll walk through creating a new Unchained vault using those keys.
1

Create a new vault

To get started creating a vault, navigate to the Vaults page and select New vault.
2

Give your vault a name

Give your vault a name. You can leave the default name or customize it. You can also change the name of your vault later!

Click Next.
3

Select your two keys

Select the two keys you want to contribute to the vault you're building.
Click Next.
4

Review and create vault

Review your vault information and Unchained’s terms or service. When you’re ready, click Create vault.
Your vault dashboard shows your balance, options to Deposit or Withdraw, a balance history, the keys protecting the vault, and a Vault Tools menu.

Back up your configuration file

All multisig wallets have a configuration file

Your wallet configuration file allows you to access your bitcoin outside of your Unchained account. This means you aren’t dependent on Unchained, and you can recover your bitcoin with the necessary keys even in the unlikely scenario that something happens to Unchained or our website.

At the bottom of your vault page, in the Vault tools menu, select View next to Wallet configuration file. Then select Download.

We recommend storing your wallet configuration file in a password manager like 1Password or LastPass.
Keep your multisig configuration file protected to preserve privacy

If someone else gets your configuration file, they could see the balance of your vault and your transaction history, but they could not steal any bitcoin if your keys remain protected. Learn more about how to protect your multisig config file.

Device registration

Only Ledger and Coldcard require registration

If you are using one or more Ledger or Coldcard, you should go through a brief registration process for each device. This teaches your hardware wallet that it’s involved in a multisig wallet. Trezor doesn't require this step.

1

Select Register devices in the Vault tools menu, or within the light blue banner on the top of your vault, then choose your device.
