How to upload your Ledger public key to Unchained

Now that you've properly initialized your Ledger, it's time to upload your Ledger public key to Unchained. This will allow you to build an Unchained vault with this key in the next sections.
1

Navigate to the Keys page

Navigate to the Keys page on the left side bar of your account.
Some browsers are problematic for certain devices

Trezor doesn’t work well with Safari. Good browser options include Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, and other chromium-based browsers.

Select Upload new key.
2

Give your key a name

Customize the name of your key so you can tell it apart from other keys. You can always change the name later.
Don’t include sensitive information in your key name

Names referencing where the keys or seed phrases are located are not recommended, for your security.

Once you’ve entered a name, select Next.
3

Export the public key

Public keys are used to build wallets

Your Ledger is designed to keep your private key secret. However, it allows you to share public keys, which are less sensitive. Uploading extended public keys is required for building your vault.

1

Choose Ledger as your device type, and select Next.

2

Unlock your Ledger with the PIN, then use the right button to navigate to the Bitcoin symbol and press both buttons.

3

Your Ledger should say Bitcoin is ready. On Unchained, select Connect to Ledger.

4

Your browser may show a popup about connecting to the Ledger. Select the model name of your Ledger, then select Connect.

5

Use the right button to scroll through the public key information, then press both buttons to select Approve.

6

The Unchained platform will show you your exported public key, a bunch of letters and numbers.

7

Select Next.

4

Review and create key

Select Create to finalize the key being added to your account. You will be taken to a dashboard for your key, which you can always return to from the main Keys page for your account.
